Crime Victims United of Illinois is interested in promoting programs that work to reduce crime, prevent victimization, end the cycles of violence, and assist victims of crime:
Chicago Tribune editorial on “Kids Killing Kids” makes excellent case for the kind of program with offenders that really makes a difference!
GREAT AND FREE TRAINING! The Office for Victims of Crime is sponsoring the two-day training program, “Strengthening Military-Civilian Partnerships to Respond to Sexual Assault,” in May in San Antonio, San Diego and Charlotte, NC. For more information and to register, please visit https://www.ovcttac.gov/trainingschedule/.
National Probation, Parole and Community Supervision Week is scheduled for July 17 to 23, 2011 and the theme is “Creativity in Times of Crisis.” The American Probation and Parole Association has produced an excellent Resource Kit that includes information and resources for engaging crime victims and advocates (which you can access and/or share with your local community supervision agency). You can download the Kit at http://www.appa-net.org/eweb/Resources/PPCSW_11/.
WATCH in Minnesota published “Promoting Victim Safety and Offender Accountability: Improving the Response to Misdemeanor Domestic Violence Cases.” While the data contributing to the Report are Minnesota-specific, the “conclusion and recommendations” on page 26 are relevant to us all. You can download this great Report at http://www.watchmn.org/sites/default/files/Suburban%20FINAL.pdf.
A great new (and brief!) report entitled “Multiple Responses, Promising Results: Evidence-based, Non-punitive Alternatives to Zero Tolerance” examines school disciplinary policies and offers recommendations on what is most effective. You can download the Report at http://www.childtrends.org/Files/Child_Trends-2011_03_01_RB_AltToZeroTolerance.pdf.
